Product Description

The ProxxBoxx CNC machine controller for use with your MF-70, PW-150 or similar CNC-ready machine tool. Relativity-supported control devices include Windows computers running UCCNC  or Mach3, and an optional stand-alone “Proxx-O-Matic” controller. This document describes the hardware installation of the ProxxBoxx unit, and software configuration for Mach3.

Hardware installation

Position the CNC-ready machine tool on an appropriately-supported clear and level surface, being sure to allow sufficient room for each axis to reach the maximum travel extents. Connect the 9-pin plugs from each axis of the machine to the corresponding sockets on the ProxxBoxx controller. Be sure to tighten the retaining screws to prevent accidental disconnection during operation, as this could damage the machine or the controller. Connect the 25-pin cable between the ProxxBoxx controller and your computer parallel port. Lastly, connect the power supply to a wall outlet, and to the “POWER” socket of the ProxxBoxx controller. The “SPINDLE” socket is reserved for use with an optional external spindle controller (ESC) switch.

Software configuration

Close Mach3 if it is currently running, then copy the supplied “MF-70.xml” or “PW-150.xml” profile files to your Mach3 directory (typically C:\Mach3), then double-click the “Mach3 Loader” icon on your desktop. The new profile(s) will appear in a list of selectable profiles. Highlight the appropriate profile, and click “OK” to load it.

Loading the relevant profile file automatically configures your “Ports and pins” and “Motor tuning” settings for the ProxxBoxx with MF-70 or PW-150 machines. Sadly, Mach3 is known to break compatibility with its own XML profile files between versions, so if you are unable to load the XML profile file, or if you need to visually confirm the settings, we included them on the following pages for reference.

Turn-on procedure

When power is connected, the green “POWER” indicator will be lit. ProxxBoxx incorporates a charge pump enable/disable circuit which prevents any machine activity unless the control computer is operating normally. When the controller is not running (e.g. disconnected, or software not loaded), then the red “E-STOP” indicator will be lit. When Mach3 is running with software emergency stop disabled (not flashing), then the red “E-STOP” indicator will be off. The yellow “SPINDLE” indicator will be lit when the spindle output is enabled by software.

Thank you for reading the manual, and we hope your experience with ProxxBoxx and MF-70 or PW-150 has been productive and enjoyable so far. If you have any questions related to your CNC software, these should be directed to your software vendor. Mach3 has an excellent customer support forum located at www.machsupport.com/forum. If you have any questions related to the ProxxBoxx, MF-70, or PW-150 hardware, then you are welcome to contact us directly by email. We appreciate having you as a customer and we will work hard to assist you.
